Located on the left bank of the Paillon river, the old town goes way back to the Middle Age. But most of the buildings you will see were built after the 16th century. A part of the ancient walls were excavated and can be visited in the archeological crypt. Ruins of the former castle can be seen on top of the Castle hill.

The main monument is the Lascaris Palace. There are also several religious buidings such as the cathedral. Unfortunately, they are baroque. Far from Metz, Notre Dame of Paris or Strasburg.

The old town has a specific charm due to the narrowness of its streets. Only a few of them  are crowded. Do not hesitate to enter little streets and to climb a few stairs in order to find yourselves alone in this maze. You can reach the Castle Hill using stairs.

The Cours Saleya is a long square where every day there is a market. There are also many restaurants which all offer outside tables. In Rossetti square, in front of the cathedral is Fenocchio, a well known ice cream maker. In the old town there is also a fish market and, once a month, a book one.

The old town has a animated night life. Bars, restaurants are open until late at night. You will also find there pubs where waiters are native English speakers and where, sometimes, you can listen to bands performing live.
